Flippin Out
Started out at Turtle Rock on Spot Pond. Threw everything I had. Jitterbug, Rapala, Kreature, jig n pig, Mepps... All I got to show for it was a baby smallie.
Moved to Quarter Mile Pond to try my hand at flipping. My first time venturing into the pads. I don't have any frogs so I was using a weightless weedless gary yamamato creature bait. A few casts in, I get a fish to slash at it. That got my heart pumping. I was hopping the lure from one pad to the next occasionally letting it slide off. One good slash, fish on! Tried horsing it out but it was just stripping line. I had to hold the line against my rod with my hand and pull damn hard. Finally got him in, sorry for the bad picture.
Later on I had a frog take the lure. I pulled him out of the pads and now I'm thinking "how the hell do you get a hook out of a frog?" Just then he spits it out. He was never hooked, just felt like holding on! That's a lot of hours for one fish, but one fish is all I need to call the trip a success!
It wasn't a frog it was a Yamamato creature.
What kind of frog were you using? Try the Spro in green and yellow, or the Spro mini. If you want to catch more fish overall, try the mini. These things glide over the water and have two hooks in the sides of them, they're weedless but as soon as they get bit, the hook rate goes up a ton...
Make sure to cut a little off the tails, they swim a little better.
Tight lines.
