The closest city is Safford, about 7 miles away. This large drainage stream has been used as a travel route up the mountain for quite some time now, and many relics can be seen while hiking through. It is also a great place to watch a very diverse wildlife population through the steep elevation changes. Ash Creek Trail #307 is the low elevation trailhead which can be accessed from the Cluff Ranch Wildlife Area just south of Pima.[1]
