The best way to keep your fish fresh is to put them on ice immediately after catching and dressing them, however, if you do a lot of stream or shoreline fishing, you may not be able to carry a cooler. Take along a few sections of newspaper. After field dressing your catch moisten the newspaper and wrap the fish in it. Newspaper breathes and the dampened paper works like evaporative cooling keeping your table bound catch fresh until you can get it on ice.
